important nerves in the neck, current controversies in thyroid cancer treatment, and tips
on recovery from surgery. The controversies reviewed include the role of minimally invasive
surgery and the strategy for management of lymph node metastases in papillary thyroid cancer.
Dr.
Michael Yeh held a patient education session for the local chapter of ThyCa, the Thyroid
Cancer Survivors' Association.
The presentation centers on the detection and management of recurrent thyroid cancer, which affects approximately 20% of individuals after initial treatment. The past five years have seen substantial research advances in this area.
